What insurance do I need for a burger bar?
The main areas of cover under a burger bar insurance policy are;
Property Damage Insurance
This protects your business contents, you stock and and buildings that you need to insure against the standard range of perils including theft. You should make sure that the policy includes accidental damage cover, this is available at a minimal cost and is a valuable additional cover. If you are responsible for insuring the buildings make sure you include subsidence cover in your quotation as this is not standard under a commercial insurance policy.
Business Interruption Insurance
This protects you against the financial effects of a reduction in turnover following a property damage claim under the policy. if your business has to close for renovations, you will still have standing charges to meet and this cover is designed to protect you against financial loss from these fixed costs and also your anticipated profit from the business during the interruption in your business.
Business Money
Covers you for the cash in the business, both on the premises, at the homes of principals and whilst in the course of transit.
Public and Product Liability
Third party liability insurance or public liability protects the insured in respect of any claims that are made against you in respect of your legal liability for personal injury and property damage sustained by third parties arising during the course of the business. Limits of indemnity vary under the various policies but common limits are £2M and £5M. A policy that is not designed for tanning salons will not include public liability insurance in respect of claims arising from the use of such equipment. We shall address the special issues raised under the public liability insurance regarding the use of UV lamps and tanning beds separately.
Employers Liability
If you employ people, employers liability insurance is a legal requirement for most employers. Standard policies offer a minimum limit of indemnity of £10M which is greater than the legally required level of £5M. This protects the policyholders against claims made against them in respect of their legal liability for personal injury or illness sustained by employees during the course of their employment.
Goods in Transit
Cover in respect of goods and stock whilst in the course of transit.
