The National Security and Investment (NSI) Act came into force on 4th January 2022. The Act gives the government new powers to scrutinise and intervene in acquisitions that could harm the UK’s national security. Acquisitions in 17 areas of the economy are affected, requiring approval from the government before they are completed. This article explains the new legislation and who will be affected.
