The UK Supreme Court handed down a landmark decision in holding that an employer is not responsible for a data breach deliberately caused by a former employee acting outside of their employment.
The ruling handed down on the 1 April 2020 reversed a previous Court of Appeal ruling in Various Claimants versus Morrisons Supermarkets.
This landmark decision will have significant, generally positive, ramifications for businesses going forwards especially under the GDPR legislation.
