The UK Government has announced plans to bring forward the date at which the pensionabl age in the Uk will increase to 68.
Under the current law the pensionable age will increase to 68 between 2044 and 2046.
Under the new proposals, that will require parliamentary approval, the state pension age would increase to 68 between 2037 and 2039.
This is a response to the well accepted burden on the state pension scheme created by the increased life expectancy of people since the state pension was first introduced in 1948 and the latest projections from the Office for National Statistics suggests that the number of people of state pension age will increase from 12.4 million in 2017 to 16.9 million in 2042.
