We look at the legal responsibility under the The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 (the Noise Regulations) of employers to protect employees and workers from the the effects of excessive noise in the workplace,

Employers must ensure that noise in the workplace must never exceed 87 decibels on a daily or weekly level and nor reach a peak of 140 decibels.

Risk management is essential in ensuring the sources of noise are identified and monitored and that appropriate steps are taken to minimise the exposure of workers by changing working practices and other mitigations and protection steps such as the provision of appropriate PPE.
