On the 26 April 2019 The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) have issued advice against all on-essential travel to Sri Lanka following the horrific terrorist attacks in the country on the 21 April 2019. The FCO considers the threat in the country to be undiminished and has stated that “terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Sri Lanka. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places visited by foreigners”.
This statement by the FCO will have an effect upon the cover provided by travel insurance policies and you should check the details of your cover even if your trip to Sri Lanka is “essential. Travel insurance policies generally exclude or limit cover where the FCO has advised against travel.
For anyone in Sri Lanka already, your cover will probably not be affected although you should contact your provider directly to confirm the situation.
